Trump Fires All Election Assistance Commissioners

President Trump fired the two Democratic members of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and ordered the sole Republican to resign, gutting the bipartisan body that helps states with voting systems and grant distribution.

The dismissals, delivered via email, have left the commission without a quorum and unable to make key decisions ahead of the November midterms.

Trump defended the move as enhancing election security, but critics, including former Obama strategist David Axelrod, said it signals a dangerous intent to interfere with elections.

The firings come as Trump also refused to sign a housing bill, in part over stalled voter-ID legislation.
