Pope Leo XIV concludes Africa tour

The final leg of the Pope’s 'African odyssey' saw an estimated 30,000 people gather in Malabo despite a powerful rainstorm.

Leo used his platform to highlight human rights abuses, including a visit to a notorious maximum-security prison where he spoke to 600 detainees about dignity and reconciliation.

His outspoken rhetoric against 'neocolonial' powers and income inequality has solidified his role as a global moral authority, even as it sparked a public feud with the White House.

The Pope is now returning to Rome after a voyage that also took him through Algeria, Angola, and Cameroon.
