Trump Reclassifies Medical Marijuana

For the first time since 1970, the federal government has moved to ease restrictions on marijuana, shifting it from the most restrictive Schedule I category to Schedule III. This reclassification will allow for expanded medical research and enable businesses to deduct normal operating expenses, a major win for the struggling industry.

While the order does not legalize marijuana at the federal level, it aligns federal policy with the reality of forty states that have already authorized medical use.

Critics, including some Republican senators, have warned that the shift could lead to increased public health risks and social instability.
