Sarkozy faces 7-year sentence

French prosecutors have requested a seven-year prison sentence for former President Nicolas Sarkozy in his Libyan financing appeal trial.

Sarkozy is accused of accepting illegal campaign funds from the late dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2007.

The prosecution also asked for a 300,000 euro fine, alleging that the former leader compromised national interests for personal gain.

Sarkozy has consistently denied the charges, calling them a politically motivated fabrication.
