Lyrids Meteor Shower Peaks

Lyrids Meteor Shower Peaks

One of the oldest known meteor showers is set to provide a celestial spectacle for observers across the northern hemisphere.

The Lyrids, which have been recorded for nearly 3,000 years, occur as Earth passes through the debris trail of Comet Thatcher.

While a bright moon may obscure some of the fainter meteors, the shower is known for producing luminous dust trails that can remain visible for several seconds.

Space experts recommend finding a dark location away from city lights during the pre-dawn hours for the best chance to spot the high-speed meteors.
