Ebola spreads in DRC as violence disrupts response

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has intensified, with cases climbing to 5,515 and nearly one in two infected people dying.

Frontline responders are increasingly targeted, with workers chased with machetes during burial duties in eastern DRC. Pope Leo has urged global action to save lives as the crisis deepens.

The combination of community violence and health worker strikes is severely hampering containment efforts.
