Lebanon ceasefire holds as thousands return

The U.S.-brokered ceasefire has provided a fragile reprieve for a region devastated by weeks of intense airstrikes and ground incursions.

Residents returning to the southern suburbs of Beirut and border towns like Tyre are finding entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, with at least 40,000 housing units destroyed.

President Joseph Aoun has declared that Lebanon is 'no longer an arena for anyone's wars' and is pushing for permanent security agreements.

However, uncertainty remains as the Israeli military maintains control over 'conquered' ground and warns residents against entering certain zones.
