Pope Leo XIV blasts 'authoritarians' in Africa

During the third leg of his four-nation tour, Pope Leo XIV addressed tens of thousands of faithful at an open-air Mass in Angola.

The pontiff lamented that much of the world is being 'defrauded by the rich' and 'exploited by authoritarians,' a message that resonated deeply in the fast-growing Catholic region.

His comments come amid a high-profile feud with President Donald Trump over the war in Iran and immigration policy.

Vatican officials noted that the Pope's speeches were prepared in advance to highlight the 'chains of corruption' holding parts of the continent hostage.
