Australia Confirms First Mainland H5 Bird Flu Case

Australia detected its first mainland case of the highly pathogenic H5 bird flu strain in a migratory bird in Western Australia, marking the virus's spread to every continent.

The case was found in a remote part of the country's southwest in Cape Le Grand National Park.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the discovery 'concerning', and farmers across the country were placed on high alert.

The discovery raised biosecurity concerns for the poultry industry and fears of mass wildlife deaths, with the disease already costing billions overseas.
