House Passes Permanent Daylight Saving Bill

House Passes Permanent Daylight Saving Bill

The House of Representatives voted 308 to 117 to approve the Sunshine Protection Act, which would lock the clocks in daylight saving time year-round, eliminating the need to fall back each November.

The measure has drawn widespread public support but faces significant hurdles in the Senate, where Senator Tom Cotton and others have raised concerns about the impact on morning darkness and schoolchildren.

If enacted, the change would take effect in November 2027, giving states and industries time to adjust.

President Trump has previously expressed support for making daylight saving time permanent, but the bill’s path forward remains unclear.
