China scraps African import tariffs

China has launched a major diplomatic and economic initiative by removing import tariffs for 53 African nations.

The zero-tariff policy, effective immediately, aims to address the significant trade imbalance between China and its African partners.

This move is seen as a strategic effort to bolster China's reputation as a reliable ally on the continent, particularly as the U.S. considers new protectionist measures.

The agreement covers the continent's largest economies and will remain in place until at least 2028.
