Nationwide Blackout Hits Cuba

Cuba began to slowly restore power after the national electric grid collapsed, leaving the island in darkness.

The blackout came as the country’s fuel reserves dwindled and its energy infrastructure continued to crumble.

Grid operator UNE said it was providing electricity to some vital services, including hospitals.

The crisis added to the severe shortages of energy, fuel and medicine already afflicting the island.
