Israel and Lebanon Agree Ceasefire

The brokered agreement follows six weeks of intense military exchanges that have resulted in over 2,000 deaths and the displacement of more than one million people.

While the ceasefire includes the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has maintained that his forces will remain in a reinforced security zone within southern Lebanon for the duration.

The deal is viewed by the Trump administration as a critical prerequisite for broader negotiations with Tehran to end the ongoing war in Iran.

Despite the formal commencement of the truce, reports of sporadic artillery fire and civilian wariness in Beirut underscore the fragility of the diplomatic breakthrough.
