Record turnout in Assam polls

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in a victory for the National Democratic Alliance, citing strong support from the Sanatani community.

The high turnout followed an intensive revision of electoral rolls, which saw nearly 5.2 crore names deleted and 2 crore new voters added across 12 states and UTs.

International observers from 22 nations lauded the planning and execution of the polls, describing them as a 'true festival of democracy'.

However, opposition leaders have alleged that the roll purification process was a 'scam' designed to disenfranchise specific communities.
