Nigeria convicts 386 Islamist militants

The trials targeted individuals linked to various insurgent groups that have plagued the country's northern regions for over a decade.

While the convictions are seen as a victory for the rule of law, human rights organizations have raised concerns about the speed and transparency of the mass proceedings.

The government maintains that the judicial action is a necessary component of its broader strategy to dismantle extremist networks.

The sentencing comes amidst ongoing military operations against Boko Haram and other militant factions.
