Trump proposes $1.5T defense budget

President Trump’s fiscal 2027 defense budget represents the largest year-over-year increase in military spending since World War II. The request earmarks $750 billion for high-priority programs, including the expansion of the defense industrial base and the replenishment of munitions stockpiles depleted during the Iran conflict.

Defense officials stated the budget also prioritizes a 42 percent increase in funding for drone warfare and counter-drone technologies.

Critics have warned that the massive military splurge could lead to deep cuts in domestic programs such as healthcare and housing.
