Israel and Lebanon agree ceasefire

Israel and Lebanon agree ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump brokered the ten-day cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, which is scheduled to begin this evening.

The agreement emerged after high-level discussions in Washington, representing the first direct diplomatic engagement between the two neighbors since 1948.

While the truce aims to create 'breathing room' for broader peace negotiations, it remains unclear if the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah will formally adhere to the terms.

The breakthrough has provided a tentative boost to global markets, though strategic pressures regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian involvement persist.
