Legendary Singer S. Janaki Dies at 88

Legendary playback singer S. Janaki, known as the ‘Nightingale of South India’, passed away at the age of 88 in Mysuru after suffering multiple cardiac arrests.

She recorded over 48,000 songs in more than 20 languages during a career spanning six decades.

Her voice defined generations of Indian cinema, particularly in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films.
