India expands strategic petroleum reserves

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced that the new underground caverns in Madhya Pradesh (Bina) and Rajasthan (Bikaner) will each hold 5 million barrels of crude, complementing the existing 10 million‑barrel capacity at Mangalore.

The expansion is aimed at insulating the country from global supply shocks and aligns with the government’s broader energy‑security strategy ahead of the monsoon season.
