Nigeria alerts citizens in South Africa

The Nigerian government has issued an urgent security advisory for its citizens living in South Africa due to a surge in xenophobic tensions and planned anti-foreigner protests.

The Consulate General in Johannesburg warned Nigerians to avoid public gatherings and close businesses early as nationwide demonstrations are scheduled for Monday.

In response to the growing threat, over 130 Nigerians have already registered for voluntary evacuation flights to return home.

While the Nigerian government stated that no citizens have been killed in the recent unrest, officials are coordinating closely with South African authorities to ensure the safety of their nationals.
