Damascus Bombs Explode Near Macron’s Hotel

The bombs exploded minutes after Macron’s convoy left the Four Seasons Hotel for a meeting with Syria’s transitional president Ahmed Al Sharaa, in the first visit by a European head of state since the fall of the Assad regime.

Macron, who was at the presidential palace at the time, warned that Syria must not be destabilised, as French business leaders signed investment deals.

The attack underscored the fragile security situation in Damascus despite the country’s political transition.

No group immediately claimed responsibility.
