Australia Sues 3M for $1.4B

Canberra is seeking damages to cover the massive cleanup costs and health impacts associated with PFAS contamination at 28 defense sites across the country.

The lawsuit, the largest ever filed by the Australian government, alleges that 3M withheld critical information about the toxicity and environmental persistence of its products for decades. 3M has vowed to fight the claim, asserting that it has never manufactured PFAS within Australia.

This legal battle follows similar multi-billion dollar settlements the company has reached in the United States over contaminated drinking water supplies.
