Russia's internet crackdown intensifies

The latest crackdown includes the shutdown of mobile internet in Moscow and a series of new laws aimed at controlling online communication.

Independent media outlets report that the move is intended to silence dissent and prevent the spread of information regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Russia has also increased its monitoring of private chats, with the FBI warning of sophisticated phishing attacks used to bypass encryption.

Despite the Kremlin's claims that these measures are for public safety, rights groups have blasted them as a systematic attempt to isolate the Russian population from the global internet.
