Deadly Wildfire Kills 12 in Southern Spain

A fast-moving wildfire raging through southern Spain's Almería province has claimed at least 12 lives, leaving another 23 missing.

Authorities fear several of the dead are British tourists, as holidaymakers described fleeing the 'terrifying' flames with only minutes to evacuate.

Hundreds of firefighters and military personnel are struggling to contain the inferno, which has destroyed homes and orange groves.

Survivors recounted the speed of the blaze, which one local said had 'ripped his soul out,' and Spanish footballers paused to send condolences ahead of a World Cup quarterfinal.
