Swalwell Resigns Amid Misconduct Allegations

Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell officially resigned his House seat this week after at least five women came forward with allegations of sexual assault and harassment.

The rapid collapse of his political career followed reports of nonconsensual encounters dating back to 2018, including claims of drugging.

While Swalwell has denied the most serious criminal accusations, he admitted to mistakes in judgment before suspending his gubernatorial campaign.

His resignation took effect immediately, preempting a rare and near-certain expulsion vote by his colleagues.
