Iran fires on ships in Hormuz

Renewed violence in the world's most critical energy chokepoint has thrown peace efforts into chaos.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that a Liberia-flagged vessel and a Greek-owned container ship were among those targeted by Iranian forces.

While no injuries were reported, the attacks caused significant damage to the ships' bridges and forced traffic to a standstill.

Iran claimed the vessels had ignored repeated warnings, while the U.S. accused Tehran of using the Strait to 'save face' amid its deepening financial crisis.
