EU approves €90bn Ukraine loan

The loan will be disbursed in tranches, with two-thirds of the funds allocated to defense and one-third to the national budget.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the 'strong and fundamental' decision, noting that the first payment is expected by June.

The agreement also includes a new package of sanctions against Russia, targeting its energy sector and shadow fleet.

However, some EU members remain wary that the deal's reliance on Russian oil revenues for repayment could complicate future diplomacy.
