Trump reclassifies medical marijuana
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche signed an executive order under President Trump's direction to move medical marijuana from the highly restrictive Schedule I to Schedule III. While the drug remains illegal at the federal level for recreational use, the move legitimizes medical programs in 40 states.
The reclassification allows for expanded scientific research and enables cannabis businesses to deduct standard business expenses.
Some conservative lawmakers have criticized the move, arguing it sends a confusing message about drug enforcement.
