LIRR strike ends with deal

LIRR strike ends with deal

The Long Island Rail Road has reached a tentative agreement with its unions to end a three-day strike that crippled New York's regional commute.

Phased service resumed on Tuesday at midday following a settlement that includes wage increases and healthcare protections.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the deal, noting that while service is returning, full schedules may not be restored until Wednesday.

The strike, the first in decades for the LIRR, had forced 250,000 daily riders to find alternative transportation during a period of extreme heat.
