Lafarge guilty of ISIL financing

A French court has found cement giant Lafarge guilty of financing terrorism by paying protection money to ISIL and other armed groups in Syria.

The judge ruled that the company knowingly entered into a commercial partnership that funded attacks during the Syrian civil war.

Eight former employees were also convicted, with some receiving jail sentences.

Lafarge was ordered to pay a significant fine for its role in breaching European sanctions and supporting terrorist activities.
