US strikes drug smuggling boats

U.S. Southern Command confirmed that the strikes were carried out on Saturday under the direction of the Trump administration's ongoing campaign against Latin American traffickers.

Intelligence had identified the boats as being linked to 'narco-terrorist' organizations operating in international waters.

Following the engagement, the U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue mission for the lone survivor.

The operation comes as the U.S. military also prepares for a naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Middle East.
