United plane hits truck at Newark

Federal authorities have launched an investigation after a United Airlines passenger jet struck a light pole and a bakery truck during its final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Boeing 767, arriving from Venice, Italy, clipped the objects on the adjacent New Jersey Turnpike before coming to a stop on the runway.

Dashcam footage captured the terrifying moment of impact, which caused significant damage to the truck but resulted in no injuries to those on the ground or the 231 people on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently examining the aircraft's flight data and the pilot's actions during the landing.
