EU unblocks €90bn Ukraine loan

European Union leaders gathering in Cyprus have formally approved a massive €90 billion financial lifeline for Ukraine.

The package, which includes a 20th round of sanctions against Russia, is designed to sustain Kyiv's military and economic stability for the next two years.

The breakthrough occurred after technical repairs allowed crude oil to reach central Europe, satisfying the conditions set by outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to attend the summit to celebrate the release of the funds, which had been stalled since early 2026.
