Mark Carney eyes Liberal majority

The byelections in Scarborough Southwest, University—Rosedale, and Terrebonne are being viewed as a referendum on Mark Carney's leadership during the global energy crisis.

Polling suggests the Liberals are favored to win at least two of the seats, which would grant them the 172-seat threshold required for a majority in the House of Commons.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has campaigned heavily against the government's handling of inflation, while Carney has focused on the need for stability amid the U.S.-Iran conflict.

The outcome will determine the direction of Canadian policy on climate change, trade, and defense for the foreseeable future.
