Evan Williams jailed for assault
Champion horse racing trainer Evan Williams has been sentenced to three years in prison for attacking an elderly dog walker with a hockey stick.
Williams repeatedly struck the 72-year-old victim after wrongly mistaking him for a poacher on his land in South Wales.
The assault left the victim with a fractured arm and has put the future of Williams' successful stables in doubt.
A judge in Cardiff told Williams that it is 'never acceptable to take the law into your own hands,' regardless of the circumstances.
Williams, who is a Welsh Grand National winner, was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm following the late-night incident.
