Deadly chemical leak in West Virginia
The chemical release at Catalyst Refiners, located in West Virginia’s 'Chemical Valley,' prompted an immediate shelter-in-place order for local residents.
Emergency responders, including several ambulance workers who were overcome by fumes, were rushed to hospitals in private vehicles and even a garbage truck.
Officials have identified the substance involved as hydrogen sulfide, a highly toxic gas.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the reaction during the plant's shutdown process.
