Colombia to Cull 'Cocaine Hippos'

The decision to euthanize up to 80 hippos comes after years of failed attempts to control the population through sterilization and relocation.

Introduced in the 1980s, the feral beasts have displaced native species and increasingly ventured into residential areas.

While the hippos have become a popular tourist attraction, environmentalists warn they are a 'ticking time bomb' for the region's biodiversity.

The cull is set to begin in the second half of 2026 despite protests from animal rights groups.
