ICE Acting Director to resign

Lyons, a 20-year veteran of the agency, reportedly cited a desire to spend more time with his family in Massachusetts as the reason for his resignation.

During his tenure, he oversaw the rapid-fire recruitment of 12,000 new officers to double the force, a spree that has been criticized for questionable hiring standards and background check lapses.

His exit follows a series of controversial immigration crackdowns and fatal shootings involving agents in Minnesota.

The Trump administration has not yet named a permanent successor, though several names are reportedly under consideration.
