Study: 1 in 4 former NFL players had CTE

A new study estimates that at least one in four former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

The degenerative brain disease can only be definitively diagnosed after death.

Lead researchers expressed alarm at the "alarmingly high" minimum rate of CTE among the studied players.
