Anti-Immigrant Marches Sweep South Africa

The nationwide protests, organized by citizen-led groups under the slogan ‘Abahambe’ (they must go), saw South Africans from multiple cities take to the streets.

While most demonstrations remained peaceful, clashes erupted in Johannesburg, and police arrested 178 people across the country.

The campaign has already forced thousands of foreign nationals to flee their homes and left four people dead.

Small businesses have been heavily impacted, with many shops owned by migrants forced to close during the unrest.
