Birmingham bin strike deal reached

The long-running industrial dispute that has paralyzed refuse collection in Birmingham may finally be coming to an end.

Council Leader John Cotton announced that a negotiated settlement with the Unite union is 'within sight' after a new pay offer was presented to striking workers.

The strike, which began in January 2025, has been one of the most disruptive in the city's history, leading to significant public health concerns and political tension.

While opposition parties have dismissed the timing as an election stunt, both sides expressed cautious optimism that a final agreement could be ratified within the week.
