Susan Coyle leads Australian Army

Lieutenant General Coyle, currently the head of joint capabilities, will take over the role in July, replacing the retiring Simon Stuart.

Her nearly 40-year career has included several senior command roles and her promotion is being hailed as a 'deeply historic moment' for the Australian Defense Force.

The reshuffle also sees Vice Admiral Mark Hammond promoted to Chief of the Defense Force.

The new leadership team takes over at a time of increasing regional tension and a renewed focus on maritime security.
