EU sanctions Russian child deportations

The new sanctions package aims to hold Russian officials accountable for what international bodies have described as a war crime intended to strip children of their Ukrainian identity.

Those targeted include high-ranking regional governors and members of Russia's children's rights commission.

The EU Council stated that thousands of children have been given Russian passports and placed with families in an attempt to permanently separate them from their culture and heritage.

This move coincides with a new art installation in Kyiv designed to highlight the plight of the missing children and pressure the international community for their return.
