Hoovering up fuel protest fallout

Hoovering up fuel protest fallout

The Irish government is facing a motion of no confidence and a critical vote on a €505m emergency support package following widespread fuel protests.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has warned that further blockades of ports and motorways will not be tolerated as the country grapples with record energy prices.

The protests, which have disrupted critical infrastructure, were sparked by a surge in wholesale electricity and fuel costs linked to the war in Iran.

While some blockades have been cleared by Gardaí, the political fallout continues to threaten the stability of the governing coalition.
