DOJ Moves to Vacate Jan. 6 Convictions

In a major reversal, federal prosecutors are seeking to vacate some of the most significant convictions resulting from the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The move would effectively erase the criminal records of 12 individuals, including Stewart Rhodes, whose sentences had previously been commuted by President Trump.

Officials suggested that continuing to defend the convictions would require asserting that these groups acted on behalf of the president, a position the current administration seeks to avoid.

Legal experts noted that this action could lead to the permanent dismissal of several high-stakes indictments.
