£10bn Wasted on Covid PPE, Inquiry Finds

The UK’s Covid-19 inquiry concluded that the Conservative government wasted nearly £10 billion on unusable personal protective equipment, with a VIP lane prioritising firms with political connections.

Healthcare staff were left poorly protected while vast sums were squandered on faulty or unusable kit.

The inquiry’s chair, Baroness Hallett, described the “vast” waste, and former minister Michael Gove claimed the overspend was an “honest error.” The findings have intensified calls for the government to implement a Hillsborough Law to prevent future cover-ups.
