Artemis II Lunar Return Journey
After capturing high-resolution images of the moon's far side and witnessing a unique solar eclipse, the four astronauts are preparing for their scheduled return on Friday.
The crew has been testing internal systems and avionics within the Orion capsule as they accelerate toward Earth's atmosphere at 2,000 miles per hour.
NASA scientists have expressed 'audible screams of delight' over the data collected during the flyby, which included observations of micrometeorite impacts.
Despite the success so far, experts warn that the heat shield's performance during re-entry remains a critical safety concern with 'no plan B' if failure occurs.
