Ebola Cases Spike 40% in Central Africa

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has seen weekly cases jump nearly 40 percent, pushing the death toll past 200.

The U.S. CDC activated $107 million in emergency funding as health systems in both nations struggled to contain the spread.

Over 150 escapes from Ebola treatment and isolation facilities have been documented since late May as patients flee for food amid a deepening hunger crisis.

The outbreak has been compounded by insecurity and poor infrastructure in the affected regions.
