Europe Roasts in Record Heatwave

The United Kingdom provisionally recorded its hottest June day ever at 36.1 degrees Celsius in Hampshire, breaking a 50-year-old record, as a heat dome scorched western and southern Europe.

France registered its highest temperature since measurements began in 1947, with dozens of heat-related deaths and widespread infrastructure strain including power outages and melting roads.

More than 1,000 UK schools were forced to close, and major tourist attractions like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre shortened hours.

The World Meteorological Organization warned that extreme heat is one of the most serious and rapidly growing risks to public health.
