Assisted dying bill set to fail
Despite broad public support and initial approval from MPs, the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill has hit a definitive roadblock in the final stages of the parliamentary session.
Opponents in the House of Lords proposed hundreds of amendments, effectively stymieing the bill's progress and preventing a final vote.
Campaigners, including Dame Esther Rantzen, have condemned the move as a betrayal of terminally ill patients who are being 'condemned to die in agony.' While the current bill is dead, advocates have vowed to continue the fight, calling for a rarely used parliamentary mechanism to revive the legislation in the next session.
